My greatest inspiration on this nursing journey is my mother and best friend, Mrs. Esther Aigbe. She served as a nurse for thirty-five years and rose to the position of Deputy Director of Nursing Services against every odd placed in her path. Watching her grow in her career shaped the woman I have become. She is the fountain from which I draw my strength, and the reason I believe I can succeed in this profession.

This paper on Benner’s Novice to Expert theory helped me understand that every nurse begins as a novice and grows through experience and reflection. It reassured me during times when I felt out of place beside classmates with more healthcare experience. Learning about the stages of development allowed me to value where I am now and trust the process of becoming the nurse I am meant to be.
