Accountability
Accountability is a value I developed strongly through my work in long-term care, where vulnerable adults depend on caregivers to be consistent, trustworthy, and responsible. To me, accountability means taking ownership of my actions, practising within my limits, and being honest about what I know and what I need to learn. It includes following standards, communicating clearly, and ensuring that every decision I make contributes to patient safety. The College of Nurses of Ontario highlights accountability as a fundamental expectation of professional nursing practice (CNO, 2023). This value shapes how I make choices, respond to challenges, and reflect on my growth. It reminds me that every patient deserves a nurse they can rely on.
